When the annual New York City Marathon returns to the Upper East Side this Sunday, November 6th, it will be back at full capacity — with 50,000 runners expected to pound the pavement through Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill and Yorkville on their 26.2 mile trek through the five boroughs — for the first time since the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The course, which begins on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, travels through Brooklyn and Queens before crossing the Queensboro Bridge and taking First Avenue up through Manhattan and into the South Bronx, then returns to Harlem and takes Fifth Avenue to the finish line in Central Park.

Spectators are encouraged to line First Avenue to cheer on runners as they pass through the Upper East Side — a number of bars and restaurants are expected to be open early for the festivities.

Organizers say another good spot to watch the race from is along Fifth Avenue between East 90th and East 105th Streets, which makes up 23rd mile of the race — shortly before the runners enter Central Park for their finish.
Grandstand seating near the NYC Marathon’s finish line in Central Park is also available for $54.25 per person.
