MANHATTAN – More than two years after Modell’s went belly-up, leaving a gaping hole in the retail landscape along the busy East 86th Street corridor, Upper East Siders have another choice when it comes to sportswear and equipment now that Wilson Sporting Goods has opened its new store in Yorkville.
Upper East Site previously reported that Wilson would be moving into the space formerly occupied by Urban Outfitters on Third Avenue between East 85th and 86th Streets, and now we’re getting a look inside the sprawling two-floor, 8,000 square foot store.

It is the sporting goods company’s second retail store in New York City, behind the SoHo flagship store which opened in January.

On the lower level of the Upper East Side store, you’ll find a multi-use court where customers can test out Wilson latest equipment and apparel, or take a selfie in front of the large mural reading ‘Upper East Side’ that lives behind the court.

The new UES location also features something you won’t find at any of Wilson’s other retail stores, an ‘equipment room’ where customers can rent products for five to ten dollars a day to test equipment for everything from baseball and softball to tennis, pickleball, basketball, football and volleyball.

Other amenities include a ‘full-time racket stringing maestro,’ ball glove personalization, club fittings and a golf simulator.

It’s not all equipment and accessories at the new store though, Wilson’s athletic-lifestyle sportswear collection is also on display and available for both men and women.

“New York continues to be a priority market for Wilson as we expand our retail footprint,” said Wilson Sporting Goods president Gordon Devin.
“From permanent retail locations to pop-ups, we will celebrate athletes of all levels and offer them the best of Wilson, ranging from premium products to curated experiences,” Devin added.

Store hours are 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Saturday and 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sundays.
