A biker from The Bronx who investigators say pummeled an off-duty police officer — in a case of road rage — who was out walking his dog on the Upper East Side this week, was busted on Friday. He was then quickly released without bail, Upper East Site has confirmed.

Investigators say Sherred Johnson, 31, is the suspect seen riding a green motorcycle in surveillance images released by police — accused of attacking the 52-year-old off-duty officer during an argument on East 90th Street, between First and Second Avenues, last Tuesday night.

After nearly being clipped by the biker, who police say was riding recklessly, the off-duty cop told the biker to slow down. That’s when police say the suspect got off his motorcycle and punched the cop in the face multiple times, causing him to fall and break his ankle and leaving him with a cut on his ear.

A mobilization was called by police Tuesday night and officers flooded the corner of East 90th and First Avenue — including specialized units like the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group and the Emergency Services Unit, but the suspect managed to give police the slip.

Detectives would wrap up their investigation less than 72 hours later, when the 31-year-old was arrested and charged with assaulting the off-duty officer last Friday, just before 7:00 pm.

Sherred Johnson was freed on his own recognizance by a judge following his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday, according to court records.

He is due back in court on May 10th.
1) I don’t care if you are in your 50’s, cops should be prepared for and ready for physical assault at all times. I really do respect police, but there are a lot who are either out of shape, don’t know how to fight, or both.
2) What is the prior record of this suspect? If he had a violent history or skipped bail before, then he should have been held on bail. If not then he is innocent until proven guilty, they may not have the right guy. The only exception to that would be undeniable video evidence.
