If Upper East Siders are good at one thing — and probably most New Yorkers for matter — it is giving you their opinion about things they don’t like. Especially coffee.
Last week, the popular Instagram account ‘Overheard in New York’ shared an exchange on the UES that could have been made by any one of us:
“You want to get overpriced, shitty coffee?”
“Yeah, let’s do it.”
With that, Upper East Site turned to our nearly 13-thousand Instagram followers to find out where these two were going on the Upper East Side to get a shitty cup of overpriced coffee.
Submissions included everything from chains big and small to solo shops. Like we said, Upper East Siders aren’t shy when it comes to sharing their feelings on a cup of joe that just doesn’t make the cut.

Interestingly enough, for the most part Upper East Siders agreed on three spots you are guaranteed to get an overpriced, shitty coffee.
Ralph’s Coffee
Ralph Lauren may know fashion, but Upper East Siders say his coffee sucks. The word ‘overrated’ was what we heard most often about Ralph’s Coffee.

Nestled within Ralph Lauren’s flagship store at 888 Madison Avenue, the cafe at the corner of East 72nd Street is a favorite of social media influencers.
Blank Street Coffee
The venture capital backed chain exploded in New York City over the past two years, opening twenty Blank Street Coffee shops since 2020, with even more on the way.

The Upper East Side is home to just three of those locations, but it sure does feel like they’re following you everywhere, right?

Starbuck’s Coffee
Everyone loves to hate the chain that pioneered $5 cups of coffee.

However, even with a staggering 20 locations crammed within the one-and-three-quarter square miles of the Upper East Side, the company has no shortage of customers who don’t mind shelling out a couple hundreds bucks a month on burnt coffee.
