New Details Revealed in Murder of Young Mom Pushing Stroller as Grand Jury Indicts Ex-Boyfriend

A grand jury has indicted the ex-boyfriend of Azsia Johnson, the young mother who was shot and killed while pushing her baby girl her stroller on the Upper East Side late last month, on second degree murder and weapons charges, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday, calling the slaying “a pre-mediated act of fatal domestic violence.”

“Committing this type of killing in front of an infant is horrific, and I cannot imagine the pain that Ms. Johnson’s family and loved ones are experiencing,” said Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

“I want to make clear that we will pursue full accountability and justice in this case,” Bragg added.

Prosecutors say back on June 29th, Johnson’s ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Isaac Argro, lured Johnson to the scene of her murder on East 95th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues, with promises he would bring things for their three-month-old daughter Chloe, according to court documents and statements made in court.

The DA’s office also revealed for the first time that the 20-year-old Asia Johnson had sent text messages saying where she was meeting Argro and describing what he was wearing when she saw him, which matched the description of the perpetrator given to police by 911 callers– a man in black wearing a ski mask.

After the heinous killing, prosecutors say Argro texted the slain mother’s family asking where their daughter, Chloe, was located and even threatened someone else Johnson knew— telling them they were next.

“He is a disgrace,”Johnson’s mother, Lisa DeSort said when reached by Upper East Site Wednesday evening.

“A demon and he will pay for taking my baby’s life and leaving his own daughter without a mother or father,” she added.

“NYC needs to bring back the death penalty.”

Since her daughter’s murder, DeSort has become an advocate for survivors of domestic violence.

“Domestic violence is not taken as seriously as it should be,” DeSort told Upper East Site in an interview earlier this month, explaining how her daughter had first been assaulted by Argro earlier this year.

“I can’t let another person die in the light of domestic violence and let another lover or family or siblings go through this without a person in their life that knows what it feels like,” she explained.
