A 27-year-old woman has become the latest victim of random violence on the Upper East Side, punched in the head while walking down the sidewalk, police said.
Investigators say it all happened just after 6:00 am on the morning of July 14th as the woman was walking southbound in front of 940 Park Avenue, near East 81st Street, when the man socked her in the head out of the blue.
Disturbing surveillance video released by police shows how in an instant, the man stopped in his tracks and punched the woman, who was passing in the opposite direction, in the face with full force.
Police say the attacker had an object in his hand, but don’t know what it was, which left the 27-year-old victim with a cut on her head.
She was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital for treatment, police said, while suspect ran away northbound on Park Avenue after the attack.
The assault suspect was last seen on Fifth Avenue near East 86th Street wearing a navy blue t-shirt, red basketball shorts and red crocs with white socks.
