The wait is almost over. The super popular New Jersey-based chain Playa Bowls has announced the grand opening of it’s new Upper East Side store, which is set to start serving its signature fruit bowls here this Saturday, September 17th. Plus, they’re sweetening the start to business in the neighborhood with freebies for those first in line.

Doors open at the new Playa Bowls, located at 1471 Second Avenue between East 76th and 77th Streets, starting at 11:00 am Saturday morning. However, you may want to arrive early because the first 50 customers waiting in line outside the new shop will receive free bowls and t-shirts.

A sneak peek inside the new Upper East Side store reveals a beachy vibe complete with palm trees painted on the walls, a mural featuring a ship’s anchor and a neon sign reading ‘Welcome to Pineappleland.’

If you’ve never been to a Playa Bowls shop, the chain focuses on fruit bowls featuring pure açaí berry, pitaya fruit, chia seeds, coconut, kale or bananas, as well as fruit smoothies, fruit juices and coffee.

Founded by two surfers on the Jersey Shore in 2014 who sought to recreate the tasty fruit bowls they had on surfing trips on the west coast and in Central America, the company has rapidly expanded to 156 locations across the country.

The new Upper East Side shop grows the company’s presence uptown, giving Playa Bowls its first shop on the east side of Manhattan north of 51st Street.
