Marketeria FINALLY Opens on the UES. So What Exactly Is It?

For more than half a year, a coming soon message had been stuck on the automatic sliding doors of a brand new establishment under construction at the corner of East 64th Street and First Avenue. Upper East Site readers inquired almost weekly whether Marketeria, as its sign would read, would be some sort of Chelsea Market-style food hall. Now that Marketeria has finally opened, we know exactly what you’ll find inside.

Marketeria is gourmet grocery store located at 1187 First Avenue, offering packaged products in addition to a feast of grab-and-go eats freshly prepared in-house.

Step inside and you’ll immediately notice the work that went into the upscale new shop with floors and walls covered in an intricate tile pattern. Yellow accents and red-painted piping on the ceiling pop with color against the largely white-colored store.

To the right of the front door, you’ll find a small room with a selection of natural dish and hand soaps stocked on shelves next to some fresh flowers, plants and candles for sale.

Small rugs featuring the Marketeria logo, a drawing of the store’s entrance, have been peppered throughout the space to keep the floor from becoming slippery on a rainy day.

As for the groceries, you’ll find high-end kitchen staples including imported pastas from Italy, a wide selection of sauces, spices and cooking oils. Marketeria also features a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as display cases packed with drinks, sushi, grab-and-go meals, dairy and frozen foods.
