MANHATTAN – A year after Banana Republic closed its doors at the corner of East 86th Street and Third Avenue in Yorkville, we’ve now learned a new tenant is set to move into the massive space bringing new jobs and more of the bustling retail presence typical on the East 86th Street corridor— the super popular athletic wear manufacturer Lululemon.

Upper East Site has learned Lululemon plans to open it’s third and likely largest Upper East Side location to anchor the retail space in the Colorado, the luxury rental high rise apartment building that housed Banana Republic and Pure Yoga for more than a decade.

The signs for both of those stores are now long gone and the building sits wrapped in scaffolding and banners advertising the more than 14,000 feet of retail space available across the two bottom floors. Right now, it’s not clear how much of that Lululemon will actually occupy when it opens, as the banners say they would be willing to partition the space.

Posters in the windows of the soon-to-be Lululemon store— spotted by eagle-eyed East 86th Street Association Vice President Andrew Fine— say that the athletic apparel retailer, known for their women’s activewear and yoga pants, will be opening this new Upper East Side location this spring— though isn’t more specific than that in terms of an grand opening.

Upper East Site has reached out to Lululemon to see if they have an anticipated opening date and whether there are any other details to share about the new Yorkville store at this time. We’re waiting to hear back.

In the meantime, you can check Lululemon’s other two Upper East Side locations at East 66th Street and Third Avenue in Lenox Hill and Madison Avenue and East 85th Street in Carnegie Hill.
