Green Kitchen Expanding, New Pizzeria & Intimate Greek Restaurant Come to the UES

It’s official, Green Kitchen is opening a new location on the Upper East Side. The family behind the popular Yorkville restaurant confirms they’re expanding, two months after Upper East Site exclusively reported they were eyeing a new space. Plans for the diner, a new pizzeria and an intimate Greek restaurant set to join the neighborhood were all revealed during Community Board 8’s Street Life Committee meeting on Tuesday night. Here’s what we learned:

Green Kitchen

Back in October, Upper East Site reported that Green Kitchen had entered lease negotiations to open a new diner at 1325 Second Avenue — formerly home to 5 Napkin Burger. Now, plans are moving forward full steam ahead.

The 2,200 square foot restaurant, located at the corner of East 70th Street, will feature seating for 60 guests in the dining area spread across 25 tables, plus another 12 seats at the bar, according to a representative.

Plans also call for outdoor seating on the sidewalk along Second Avenue, as well as a curbside dining shed on East 70th Street. Hours will be 9:00 am to 11:00 pm seven days a week.

Last July, Green Kitchen’s original location at the corner of East 77th Street and First Avenue closed after 91 years serving serving the UES.

An opening date has not yet been set, however, the owner says he plans to start serving hungry Upper East Siders at the new location by April.

Buona Mia Pizza

The owner of La Mia Pizza on First Avenue near East 82nd Street is set to open a new, larger pizzeria a little further north on the Upper East Side.

Located at 1638 and 1640 Third Avenue, between East 91st and 92nd Streets, a double-sized Buona Mia Pizza is taking over the spaces that formerly belonged to defunct rapid grocer Fridge No More and the Korean fusion restaurant Maroo next door.
