Police are searching for the sicko who pounced on a young woman simply walking down a well-lit Upper East Side street late at night. The creep is seen in surveillance video released by investigators running up on the victim, ripping down her shirt and sexually assaulting her on the sidewalk.
The 22 year old was walking eastbound on 89th Street, between First and Second Avenues, around 11:45 on the night on Tuesday, June 28th, when she detectives say was attacked by a man who came up on her from behind, grabbed at her blouse and pulled it down off her shoulders and then violated the woman— putting his mouth on one of her breasts.
The entire vile assault took just a matter of seconds and was all captured on video by a recording surveillance camera nearby. The sick, sexual deviant is seen sprinting from the scene after assaulting— and traumatizing— the innocent woman to satisfy his own disgusting urges.
Investigators say the young woman refused medical attention after the attack, though it’s not clear if she was injured.
The suspect is described by police as a 30-year-old man, standing 6’0” tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, light colored blue jeans, a black baseball cap and black sneakers. He was carrying a black backpack at the time.
Despite increases in overall crime on the Upper East Side, sex crimes, excluding rape, have actually fallen 14% this year compared to last, according to NYPD data. Still, the number is alarmingly high, with 53 sex crimes reported so far this year— more than six per month just in our neighborhood alone.
If you recognize the suspect or have any information that could help police, you’re asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-8477.
