UPDATE: Dead Woman’s Niece Arrested In Bathtub Murder Mystery

MANHATTAN – NYPD officers have arrested the niece of a 56-year-old woman found dead in her own bathtub, fully-clothed, in what initially appeared to be a murder mystery just blocks north of the Upper East Side.

Police were called to Ana Nieves’ building on East 100th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues to perform a welfare check on her on Friday night— but that call came too late.

Officers found the 56 year old’s body inside the bathroom of the third floor apartment she shared with her niece. Detectives say Nieves was fully clothed, lying in the bathtub with visible trauma to her head.

As Upper East Site first reported on Saturday, a single NYPD cruiser remained outside the apartment building more than eighteen hours after the killing, as detectives continued to investigate the grisly slaying on a quiet East Harlem block.
