Put on your favorite green shirt because the luck of the Irish rolls back into the neighborhood this Friday, March 17th. The annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will once again march up Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side, with an estimated two million spectators expected to pack the sidewalks between East 44th and 79th Streets for the celebration of Irish heritage.
The NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade, which features roughly 150,000 marchers, starts at 11:00 am sharp — so be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot to watch from. Also keep in mind that there are no portable restrooms along the parade route, so you’ll either have to hold it or find a nearby business that’ll allow you to use their facilities.

The parade on Fifth Avenue winds down around 4:30 pm, but the festivities continue across the Upper East Side, with plenty of neighborhood bars and restaurants offering special St. Patrick’s Day dishes served with an extra heaping spoonful of Irish hospitality.
Here’s a few of your options:
Treadwell Park
Doing things a little differently this year, Treadwell Park, the popular Lenox Hill gastropub located at 1125 First Avenue, at the corner of East 62nd Street, is hosting a ‘Luck of the Irish St. Paddy’s All Day Bash.’

A general admission ticket costs $40 and includes two hours of open bar — featuring Irish margaritas — starting at 2:00 pm. If you splurge for the VIP Reserved Seating, you also ticket also comes with a plate of Treadwell Park’s traditional bangers and mash. Don’t forget the ping pong tables and pinball machines.
Third Avenue Ale House
St. Patrick’s Day is the most delicious time of the year at the Third Avenue Ale House, located at 1644 Third Avenue, at the corner of East 92nd Street, as their famous corned beef grilled cheese returns for one day only.

The mouth-watering sandwich, topped with caramelized Guinness-marinated onions, is a playful twist on the standard St. Paddy’s Day fare. Drink specials and St. Patrick’s-themed cocktails will also be available. Doors open at noon.

Irregulars
St. Patrick’s Day also marks the one year anniversary for Irregulars on the Upper East Side.

Located at 1152 First Avenue, at the corner of East 63rd Street, this upscale Irish bar will be opening bright and early at 10:00 am to serve a traditional Irish breakfast, including eggs, Irish beans and bacon, bangers and grilled tomatoes. Corned beef and cabbage and other special menu items will also be available.

Merrion Square Pub
Raging inflation is no match for the Merrion Square Pub, which is offering its corned beef and cabbage special for just $16 again this year.

Merrion Square Pub is located at 1840 Second Avenue, at the corner of East 95th Street, with doors open at 11:00 am for those looking to get an early start. The Upper East Side fixture, which celebrates 20 years in Yorkville this year, even gets its name from a famous park located in Dublin, Ireland.
Dylan Murphy’s
Located at 1453 Third Avenue, near East 82nd Street, Dylan Murphy’s will be opening at 10:00 am on Friday, the start of a full weekend celebrations at the traditional Irish bar.

On St. Patrick’s Day, they’ll be serving up corned beef and cabbage. Irish step dancers are also scheduled to perform at Dylan Murphy’s at 4:00 pm on Saturday, and finally on Sunday, Rugby games will be on the TVs in the morning and Irish music is planned for the afternoon.
Meller’s Sports Hub
Meller’s is celebrating its very first St. Patrick’s day on the Upper East Side. The bar and grill, which opened last May at 1702 Second Avenue, near the corner of East 88th Street, will be offering a special hand-sliced corned beef sandwich served on rye bread, with yellow mustard and chips on the side, all day long.

The Guinness will also be flowing. Festivities begin at 10:30 am.
The Alvin Public House
The Alvin, located at 406 East 64th Street, near First Avenue, is opening its doors early at 1:00 pm to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

In addition to drink specials featuring Paddy’s Irish whiskey, you’ll also find corned beef and cabbage, as well as reuben sandwiches on the menu at this three-year-old gastropub.
Not A Speakeasy
Laugh your butt off this Friday night at the Dessert First comedy show hosted by Not A Speakeasy, located at 301 East 81st Street, near the corner of Second Avenue.

The comedy show runs from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will feature a St. Patrick’s Day theme, plus unlimited beer, wine, specialty cocktail and a shamrock ice cream cookie sandwich is included with the $69 ticket price.
