Vanessa’s Dumpling House Finally Opens Long-Awaited UES Restaurant

No longer will you have to trudge to the dreaded Upper West Side, Chinatown or Brooklyn to feast on the some of the most delicious dumplings New York City has to offer. Vanessa’s Dumpling House has finally opened its Upper East Side location, nearly nine months after we first reported the chain was coming to Yorkville.

Vanessa’s opened the doors of its newest establishment, located at 1623 Second Avenue, between East 84th and 85th Street, on Saturday, September 17th.

The restaurant’s signature bright orange awning acts as a beacon on the block, making Vanessa’s pretty easy to find for those seeking out their chewy, crispy, flavor-packed handmade dumplings.

The tasty bites come in eight pieces per order, either fried or boiled and stuffed with savory fillings, including chive & pork, shrimp, chicken & basil and vegetable.

Homemade Chinese noodles, sesame pancake sandwiches, steamed buns and fresh hot soups round out the menu— however, on launch day, only dumplings and sandwiches were available as the kitchen worked out the kinks.

Inside the entrance to the new restaurant, a long disabled-accessible ramp lined with rolling pins on the wall takes you to the rear counter to place your order.

Lots of wood, matched with warm lighting and orange accents give the fast casual restaurant a welcoming, comfortable ambiance.

There’s also a freezer near the cash register packed with bags of frozen dumplings to take home.

As Upper East Site first reported last December, Vanessa’s Second Avenue location will eventually serve beer and wine— joining the likes of its Williamsburg and UWS locations.

Vanessa’s Dumpling House’s hours are expect to be noon to 10:00 pm seven days a week.
