UES Educational Complex Gets $3 Million for Major Renovation & Upgrades

Upper East Side school children are in for a treat, as the Julia Richman Educational Complex — home to five UES schools and a day care for babies of teen parents — is set to receive a major renovation and upgrades, thanks to a $3 million investment from City Council Member Julie Menin and Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.

Renovations to the JREC, located at 317 East 67th Street, at the corner of Second Avenue, will include the construction of a new, state-of-the-art pool locker room and showers, as well as the creation of a flexible fitness space that can be used for a variety of physical activities — including use by the general public.

“This budget victory would have not been possible without collaboration and support from City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.”

Last year, Menin requested Speaker Adams allocate the $3 million to the JREC, which serves more than 2,000 pre-k through high school students from all five boroughs. On Wednesday, the Council Members toured parts of the facility set to undergo a complete transformation.
