The Peaky Barista Set to Bring Coffee with a European Vibe to the UES

MANHATTAN – After taking over the Upper West Side with two popular family-owned cafe’s, the Peaky Barista himself is bringing his fresh-brewed coffee and pastries to our neck of the woods. The next Peaky Barista coffee shop is set to open right here on the Upper East Side.

What is a Peaky Barista? That’s the wrong question to ask.

The Peaky Barista is more than a coffee joint— it’s an extension of owner Dragan Bulic, who is the Peaky Barista.

Coming to the United States from Serbia in 2008, Bulic spent a decade working in the service industry before parlaying his passions for coffee, hospitality and the Roaring Twenties into two successful UWS shops.

Now, Bulic plans to expand to a third location in our neighborhood, Upper East Site has confirmed, bringing the ’hip coffee shop with a European vibe’ to Lexington Avenue between East 82nd and 83rd Streets on the Upper East Side.

The new coffee shop will be moving into a more than one-thousand square foot storefront formerly occupied by a Vogue Nail Salon, TradedNY was first to report.

If the two west side shops are any indication, expect a warm and inviting space with lots of aged wood and pastel colors.

The ‘European vibe’ goes well beyond the coffee shop’s decor. It’s easy to see the Balkan influence in their menu, which includes sweets like baklava and Balkan croissants with strawberry jam. There are savory bites available as well, including the feta cheese burn and organic beef burek, a baked treat that includes beef layered with flaky dough.

A family affair through and through, the pastries at The Peaky Barista are Mr. Bulic’s own mother’s recipes— Mama Bulic even helps out in the cafe’s kitchen— so you know everything they serve is made with love.

Living by the mantra “coffee is always a good idea,” the Peaky Barista grinds and brews Stumptown coffee beans, which you can also purchase by the bag to take home.

Having just signed a lease, the new Lexington Avenue location won’t be open for several months. Bulic tells Upper East Site he’s eyeing an October grand opening right now. In the meantime, visit one of their two UWS locations at West 102nd Street and Broadway or Columbus Avenue between West 92nd an 93rd Streets.
