MANHATTAN – Despite being hounded for details for months, Target has stayed quiet about the details of its new 55,000 square foot Upper East Side store located on East 86th Street near Lexington Avenue— but on Thursday night, the mega-popular retailer dropped the official grand opening date for the long awaited store.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 24th. Target says that’s the first day you’ll be able to take the escalators from their lobby— featuring a giant bullseye logo and a unique red and white floral design— to the the massive underground space that formerly housed bookseller Barnes and Noble.

Target’s website had previously stated the new store, located at at 150 East 86th Street, would open sometime this month— however, officially the retailer had been quiet about when shoppers will be able to stroll the aisles of the store.

Last month, a source familiar with the timing of the new store’s opening revealed Upper East Site the new Target store was going to open its doors closer to the end of the month— just in time for last-minute Halloween costume and candy shopping.

However, Target’s official announcement Thursday means Upper East Siders eagerly awaiting the stores opening will have their chance to shop all the bargains several days earlier than previously thought.

We checked Thursday and hiring is still underway at the new Target store, with thirteen open positions listed on the retailer’s website— many of which are for Security Specialists and Guest Advocates, whose job it is to “create an experience that makes guests say ‘I LOVE TARGET!’”

There are likely more than a few Upper East Siders ready and willing to shout it already.
