MANHATTAN – Their motto is ‘every bite a better burger,’ and now those better burgers are coming to the neighborhood. Smashburger, famous for its namesake hamburger patty-smashing technique, is set to open its third Manhattan restaurant and first located on the Upper East Side.
Situated at the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 62nd Street, the signs are up outside the new Smashburger restaurant, which takes over the longtime location of Burger Heaven, a lunchtime fixture which closed in February 2020 after more than three-quarters of a century in business.

As for Smashburger, they aim to deliver an ‘elevated burger experience,’ which starts with hand-packed balls of fresh, never frozen, certified angus beef smashed onto a hot seasoned grill with a hand press, creating a crust on the burger like no other patty you’ve tried.

If beef isn’t your thing, they’ve also got crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers as well as black bean patties for vegetarians that want to indulge.

Fresh salads, hand-spun milkshakes made with Häagen-Dazs ice cream and rosemary-seasoned fries and tater tots are also available on the Smashburger menu.
At the new Upper East Side location on Lexington Avenue on Thursday, construction workers could be seen carrying materials into the restaurant, which appears to still be very much raw on the inside.

Upper East Site has attempted to reach Smashburger for details on the new restaurant’s opening timeline, but have been unsuccessful.

According to a new Google directory listing for the Upper East Side Smashburger restaurant, the grand opening will be Wednesday, September 28th.

Once the Lexington Avenue Smashburger does open, its hours will be 8:30 am to 10:00 pm everyday, according to the company’s website.
In the meantime, if you cant wait to try one of their hand-smashed burgers, head to one of Smashburger’s two midtown restaurants, located near Herald Square and Times Square, to get your burger fix.
