A bakery inspired by a woman’s memories of the South of France is putting down roots here on the Upper East Side with its first retail location. Upper East Site has confirmed Patisserie Vanessa plans to open its new flagship cafe, located at 1340 Lexington Avenue, at the corner of East 89th Street by this Saturday, March 11th.

Patisserie Vanessa’s signature pastry, we’ve been told too keep an eye out for, is Le Canelé Vanessa, her take on the classic French pastry made of vanilla-flavored custard with a caramelized crust.

Other specialties include elegant and playful favorites like La Tropezienne Vanessa, a cream-filled St. Tropez tart, La Charlotte Vanessa — a lady finger cake filled with rich flavors of raspberry, lemon, or chocolate with heart of caramel — and Le Choux Chantilly, a type of cream puff.

With the new flagship set to open, all baking will now be done in-house at the Carnegie hill space, which features a stunning, upscale all white modern design and seating on two levels and glass partitions giving customers a direct look into the bakery itself.

While this is Patisserie Vanessa’s first brick-and-mortar bakery, you may have sampled their sweet treats before.

Vanessa had been crafting authentic, high-quality French pastries from her commercial kitchen in East Harlem for cafes around Manhattan, including Caffe Arrone’s original Greenwich Village location, as well as the Black Star Bakery & Cafe and Le Moulin here on the Upper East Side.
Now though, you’ll have to stop by their new bakery on Lexington Avenue to sample their delicious French pastries.

Once open, regular hours will be from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday, the bakery will open an hour later on weekends.
