MANHATTAN – Parts of an Upper East Side deli we’re left in shambles Thursday afternoon when an out-of-control car, going in reverse, slammed into a parked SUV before jumping the curb and crashing through the enclosed outdoor market area, sending at least one person running for their life.
Surveillance video obtained by Upper East Site shows the black sedan stopped at the corner of East 91st Street near Third Avenue around 2:30 pm Friday afternoon.

The car begins slowly going backwards then accelerates and slams into a silver SUV, ripping off part of its bumper and leaving a metal panel crumpled.

The obstacle barely slows the car down.
It just keeps going until its off screen— thats when it crashed through the enclosed outdoor area of the Third Avenue Garden deli market, ripping the fabric-covered metal panels apart.
The owner of the market tells Upper East Site that an employee was standing in the spot where the car wrecked— luckily, he says the worker saw it coming and ran out of the way.

The surveillance video also shows a man trying to cross East 91st Street scurrying out of the way of the speeding car as it careened towards the deli.

A closer look at the video shows the driver of that black sedan appearing to flail their arms just before the car starts going backwards— though it’s not clear what the driver was doing.

Thankfully, the owner of Third Ave. Garden says no one was hurt in this crash despite high volume of foot traffic at this intersection.

Police could not immediately provide additional details on the incident.
