MANHATTAN – Living in New York City, it’s common to to find yourself walking through movie sets, tv shows filming, commercials and more. However, you’re much more likely to come across the celebrities, cameras, and lights in neighborhoods like Meatpacking, Soho, or the West Village— not today. The Upper East Side is apparently standing in for the Upper West Side for a scene in the second season of the hit Hulu series ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ being filmed Monday and Tuesday.

A-List celebrities Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short star in the popular Hulu show, which despite being set at the Arconia— the ficticious name for a real building on West 86th Street on the Upper West Side— is taking over York Avenue here on the Upper East Side.

Monday morning, ‘Only Murders in the Building’ was seen featuring two UES locations along York Avenue for filming.

On Monday morning, the crew and cast occupied the sidewalk in front of Bob’s Bagels, where Upper East Site spotted character Bunny—played by Jayne Houdyshell— filming a scene walking along York Avenue with a basket of groceries, flowers, and plants— dressed in a long brown coat.

A sighting of Bunny is crucial to the plot of Season 2— Upper East Site isn’t going to break any spoilers, but for Only Murders in the Building fans ‘if you know, you know.’

The next stop was the corner of East 86th Street and York Avenue, where the Mansion diner will be the filming location for the remainder of the day— with the scenes being performed inside the restaurant.

The production crew, including an audio technician holding a boom microphone, was visible inside the Mansion from outside, but it’s not clear which characters were part of the scene.

Take a short walk and you can see all the movie trailers, film crew and equipment spanning from East 87th Street all the way to down to East 83rd street and York Avenue— notably you’ll notice a door labeled ‘Oliver,’ the name of Martin Short’s character in the show.
As true Upper East Siders know, it’s difficult to mistake the UES for the UWS. We’re curious to see how our neighborhood incorporates into the show for Season 2.

Upper East Site has an exclusive interview Tuesday with The Mansion’s owner to get the scoop on what it’s like to be prominently featured in such a large production— so stay tuned for that.
We’ll continue to keep you updated as filming continues in our neighborhood.
