One person was injured in a ferocious all-hands fire that sparked inside a 102-year-old Upper East Side apartment building early Saturday morning, FDNY officials tell Upper East Site — sending a dozen trucks and 60 firefighters racing to the scene to battle the raging flames inside.

The fire broke out just after 7:00 am in a first-floor apartment of the six-story building located at 503 East 73rd Street, between York Avenue and the FDR Drive.

Firefighters raced to the scene, stretching out their hoses and smashing the windows of the burning unit to release the billowing smoke trapped inside the building.

Crews doused the flames with water and searched the building for anyone who may have been trapped inside — using ladder trucks to access the roof of the building.

Officials say the injured victim was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, but their condition was not immediately known.

Everyone else inside the Lenox Hill apartment building’s 30 units did make it out safely. The fire was extinguished within an hour and the all clear was given just after 8:00 am.
At this point, officials say it is not yet clear what sparked the flames. FDNY Fire Marshals are now investigating the cause.
