MANHATTAN – In just a couple of weeks, the Upper East Side is losing yet another business— this time the Rite Aid store on Second Avenue is closing its doors for good— and famous comedian and fellow Upper East Sider Michael Rapaport says he knows why— rampant shoplifting allegedly caught on camera inside the store Tuesday.

“This fucking guy just filled his two bags up with everything in Rite Aid, right here on 80th and [Second] Avenue is walking down the street like shit is GUCCI,” Rapaport says in the video.

“I was watching him the whole time.”

Rapaport flips out on the suspected shoplifter as he casually walks past security and out of the Lenox Hill Rite Aid and down East 80th Street— the comedian following the man out stunned at what he just witnessed.

“My man just went Christmas shopping in January!” the comedian and popular podcaster added.

“He Had the condoms, the shampoo!”

Even Access Hollywood host and former Saved by the Bell star Mario Lopez chimed in on the video, which has more than 165,000 views.

“Dude looked at Security and said… ‘Sup?’” Lopez asked.

Upper East Site visited the store shortly after the video of the incident was posted to find no police at the location— except those across the street writing a ticket to a double parked van blocking traffic.

It’s not clear whether the store contacted police, as the NYPD did not respond to our inquiries by time of publication.

Store employees were tight lipped about what happened— but Upper East Site is told they believe their store is closing for good on February 15th, because of the rampant shoplifting inside the store.

Rite Aid confirmed to Upper East Site the store would be shutting down, but downplayed retail theft as the cause.

“Like all retail businesses, we regularly review each of our locations to ensure we are meeting the needs of our customers, communities and overall business,” a Rite Aid spokesperson told Upper East Site late Tuesday.

“A decision to close a store is one we take very seriously, and is in response to business conditions and viability specific to that store.”

Inside the closing Rite Aid, shelves are already bare as the store winds down operations.

“I’m TRIPPING this happened in broad day like it was nothing,” Rapaport added.

  1. The politicos will be outraged when they finally realize that the UES has become a retail store wasteland with very few places for their actual tax-paying constituents to purchase necessities at reasonable prices. I suppose Amazon will get the last laugh at the AOC crowd when it becomes the primary means of shopping for New Yorkers as the move to online shopping accelerates.

  2. The lease had been up not too long ago and they took short term renewals
shoplifting wasn’t the only deal breaker.
