MANHATTAN – Despite having more than one-thousand open Covid-19 vaccination appointments at locations throughout the region— including Lenox Hill Hospital and Lenox Health Greenwich Village— Northwell Health is not scheduling any more third doses for immunocompromised patients, less than 24 hours after making them available.

Lenox Hill Hospital itself lists 64 appointments still available to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, however, none of those appointments will be given to cancer patents, transplant recipients, those with immune deficiency diseases, HIV or those taking immune-system drugs for auto-immune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis.

Just yesterday, Northwell Health held a press conference on Long Island to announce the distribution of third Covid-19 doses— which the Food and Drug Administration describes as effective immunity boost for the immunocompromised— administering third doses to two cancer patients before the media.

We reached out to Northwell Health to determine whether it’s a glitch on the site or if the healthcare provider is just choosing to prioritize first doses among the hesitant over those who have already demonstrated they are willing and able to protect themselves and the community at large.
Northwell tells Upper East Site, “we are finalizing the logistics and operations around the third dose program and expect appointments to be available shortly” adding that the immunocompromised can receive their third dose as a walk-in without an appointment.
