Green Lane Coffee Brings Taste of Brooklyn to the Upper East Side

MANHATTAN – The Upper East Side has no shortage of places to grab a cup of coffee, but a new shop is bringing a taste of Brooklyn’s coffee culture to the neighborhood. Green Lane Coffee opened its new Upper East Side location on Sunday, offering strong brews and pastries straight out of BK.

Located on First Avenue between East 82nd and 83rd Streets, Green Lane Coffee is tucked away in a subtle white storefront with only its name on the front door.

Step inside the small cafe and it’s take out service only right now— the clean simplicity of the interior makes it a welcoming space and draws your eye to the large espresso machine— the store’s focal point where where all the action happens.

Founded in Greenpoint in the Fall of 2020, Green Lane Coffee’s Brooklyn roots run deep— and that’s clear from the moment you step inside the new Upper East Side location.

“I think the neighborhood requires a good coffee shop, with good Brooklyn quality, because specialty coffee in Brooklyn is a little different level than here,” said Green Lane Coffee owner Dmitry Miroshnichenko.

For its drinks, you’ll notice Green Lane only brews beans from Parlor Coffee— which is roasted in a converted carriage house near the Brooklyn Navy Yard. That includes their signature drink, a fizzy Espresso and Soda made with Miracle Seltzer.

“They’re a little but more expensive than the other roasters, but they’re super good,” said Miroshnichenko.

For Upper East Siders that don’t drink java, Green Lane will soon have Bushwick Tea available for customers.

A variety of pastries are available, sourced from three different bakeries in the borough, including vegan banana bread available in three flavors— banana, chocolate chip and lemon and matcha.

Though the shop is new to the Upper East Side, the neighborhood holds special meaning for owner Dmitry Miroshnichenko, who tells Upper East Site he got his start in the restaurant business in NYC working at Felice 83— the popular Italian restaurant that sits across the street from his new coffee spot.

Green Lane Coffee is open every day from 7:00am – 4:00pm, so be sure to stop by and say hello.
