Goodsugar to Open First Location on the UES, Says to Give It ‘All of Your Money’

Health-conscious Upper East Siders will be happy to learn another organic, plant-based eatery is coming to the neighborhood very soon. With a bright yellow facade that is impossible to miss, goodsugar is different than you’re average juice bar or vegan restaurant because of what its notable founder calls a ‘wellness platform like no other’ that will change your life and empty your wallet.

The new goodsugar Upper East Side retail store, located at 1186 Third Avenue, is the company’s first brick-and-mortar location and is expected to opens its doors at the corner of East 69th Street the first week of April, according to the goodsugar representative — however, the company tells Upper East Site a grand opening date has not been finalized.

A large yellow sign reading ‘Going into Business’ greets those passing by the new establishment, whose windows have been blacked out to keep details on the work underway inside under wraps.

Thankfully, Upper East Site has a first look at the interior of the new restaurant, which features a clean, modern design with accent walls featuring colorful murals of turtles and plastic bottles in the ocean that pop against the largely white interior.

It does not appear that goodsugar’s new restaurant will feature much seating. A large wood and metal counter featuring a checkout area separates the eatery’s open kitchen from customers, sitting roughly 10 feet from the entrance. Metal benches and tiny wooden tables just larger than a dinner plate line the wall opposite the counter.

On the menu of the new Upper East Side restaurant, you’ll find Superfood smoothies, smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juices made with organic unprocessed fruits and vegetables, hot soups, plant-based burritos, cold brew coffee and infused teas, as well as plant based pastries made with natural sweeteners like maple syrup.

While researching this article about the goodsugar’s first permanent brick-and-mortar location on the Upper East Side, we came across what appears to be a candid statement in a blog post from founder Marcus Antebi on the company’s website that must have slipped past the editors on their marketing team.

“My goodsugar™ philosophy will change your life for the better,” explains Marcus Antebi, who is also the founder of the popular Juice Press chain, “but first you have to give me all of your money.”

On its website, goodsugar sells a variety of dietary supplements, including those you’d find at your closest CVS or Duane Reade, for $40 each. Meanwhile, goodsugar’s diet book is on sale for $30.

Upper East Site asked goodsugar for an explanation of the quote and was told it was just “sarcastic humor,” however, no other attempts at humor were found in the aforementioned blog post.
