Update: The Covid-19 Omicron variant was first identified in the United States on December 1, 2021 in California.
MANHATTAN – It’s the most wonderful time of the year on the Upper East Side as family and friends gather together to celebrate the holidays– unfortunately we’re still in the thick of the Covid-19 pandemic, with word of a new threat coming this week. The highly-transmissible Omicron variant has now been found in several countries– and experts say the best defense against Omicron is vaccination and booster shots.
“We continue to see warning signs of spikes this upcoming winter,” Governor Hochul said Friday, “while the new Omicron variant has yet to be detected in New York State, it’s coming.”
Governor Hochul has issued a State of Emergency in New York in order to prepare hospitals for a potential surge in Covid patients, and pointed to vaccination and booster shots as the best way to keep ourselves safe.

“If you haven’t gotten yours yet, get it as soon as you can,” Governor Hochul added.
That’s why Upper East Site is laying out where to receive your COVID booster as we enter the winter months.
*Please note: New Yorkers 18 years and older who received their Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna initial vaccine series at least six months ago or the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at least two months ago are eligible for a booster dose.
The Centers for Disease Control and New York State Department of Health encourage all eligible New Yorkers to get their booster dose, especially those over the age of 50 and others with underlying conditions.
