Detectives captured the suspect less than 48 hours after they say he ambushed a 27-year-old woman on a path near Wollman Rink and Swan Lake in Central Park– and just over twelve hours after the NYPD new crystal clear surveillance video showing the face of the suspect— as he attempted to sell a cell phone in a smoke shop after the heinous attack.

Investigators say Velez is the man in all black described by the survivor, who choked her until she passed out, then raped her in park.

After the sexual assault, police say the survivor called out for help and a good Samaritan came to her aid– and the woman was then taken to the hospital in stable condition.
